Nottingham Forest F.C., who were once a domestic and European powerhouse, compete in the Football League Championship(second division of English Football) and play at the 30,500 capacity stadium City Ground. Notts County F.C., the oldest team in the world, compete in Football League Two(fourth division of English Football) and play at the 19,500 capacity stadium Meadow Lane.

Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club play at Trent Bridge, a 17,500 capacity ground. The National Ice Centre of Nottingham hosts ice skating and ice hockey events as well as other entertainment events. In Rugby Union, the city is represented by Nottingham Rugby Football Club. Nottingham Tennis Centre is one of the best of its kind in England and was home to the professional tennis tournament Nottingham Open.

The National Watersports Centre is one of five national sports centres in England and features 270 acres of set for various water activities.

Nottingham Railway Station serves the city and the surrounding area, handling over 5 million passengers a year. The Nottingham Express Transit is a tram system that operates in the city. Major bus operators in the city include Nottingham City Transport and Trent Barton.

The major higher education schools in the city are The University of Nottingham and Nottingham Trent University, each serving more than 25,000 students. New College Nottingham is a smaller school with eight campuses around the city.
